It's\noriginal beginnings date back to the fourth term (2nd year) of the\nUniversity of Waterloo's Computer Engineering program (summer of 1999).\nThe Electrical and Computer Engineering (E&CE) 222 course - Digital\nComputers - taught Motorola Coldfire 5206 assembly as an introduction to\nmachine assembly language.  Since the Computer Engineering class of 2002\nis twice the size of previous classes, the demand for Coldfire boards\nwas much greater than their availability.  (Also the fact that several\nclassmates apparently didn't understand \"NO food or drinks in the labs\"\nand kept getting the labs deadbolted on us didn't help).  Thus, David\nGrant began his emulator project to work on labs without requiring the\nactual hardware boards.  Although the emulator progressed far enough to\nbe used for the first three labs, interrupts were not yet implemented so\nthe real boards were used for the final assignment.  The next term\nfeatured the course E&CE 354 - Real-Time Operating Systems - where a\nproject involved writing a real-time executive (RTX) for the Motorola\nColdfire 5206 platform. (Insert same problems with availability and\nstupid classmates here). So, the emulator was dusted off and developed\nin parallel with the RTX.\n","package_architecture":"amd64","stem":"coldfire","readme":null,"dependencies":[{"path":"devel/gmake","type":"build","package_spec":"","url":"/packages/release/devel/gmake/"}],"reverse_dependencies":{"count":0,"url":null},"categories":["emulators"],"flavors":[],"only_for_architectures":[],"not_for_architectures":[]}}
