OpenBSD platforms target machine families, not just processor instruction sets. Each reference describes the hardware, practical characteristics, and history of a port. Use the linked hardware list to check the exact model and its devices.

Platform and processor names #
The platform and processor names can differ: arm64 uses aarch64, and macppc uses powerpc. uname(1)
shows the platform with uname -m and the processor architecture with uname -p.
The “only for” and “excluded” lists on package pages are ports build restrictions, not lists of published binary packages. The Handbook’s catalogue uses amd64 data.
Architecture-independent packages #
A package architecture of * means architecture-independent contents. Ports build restrictions still apply.
See Managing Software: Packages and Ports for package installation and package categories to browse the catalogue.
